The Minister of International Cooperation and Promotion of Public-Private Partnership, Denis Christel Sassou Nguesso, said after a meeting with the general manager of the Japanese company Marubeni, Yuseke Yamamoto, that the Japanese company intends to build a methanol plant in the special economic zone of Pointe-Noire, to promote the production of butane gas in Congo.

The project involves the production of methanol, a major chemical product made from natural gas. It is used in the manufacture of many products for cosmetic use, such as synthetic perfumes, varnishes and several other derivative products. Methanol is also used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, formaldehyde and some plastics.

Financed for 660 billion CFA francs, the methanol plant construction project will provide gas to the Republic of Congo.

"Congo is not only an oil country, but also a gas country. The methanol business is an extension of the gas business. Once materialized, this project to set up in the Pointe-Noire special economic zone of Pointe-Noire, the first methanol plant, will create many jobs," said Denis Christel Sassou Nguesso.

As an end note, a memorandum of understanding was prepared for the implementation of this project since 2014 in Brazzaville, between the Congo and this Japanese company.
